  • Enlisted
  • Officer
  • Civilian

There are three ways to serve in the USSF: Enlisted members participate and support operations; officers plan and manage personnel, while civilians perform a mix of both support and management of Space Force operations.

There are multiple ways to become an officer in the U.S. Space Force: the U.S. Air Force Academy, the Reserve Officer Training Course (ROTC) and Officer Training School (OTS). Depending on your goals, education and experience, the best option for you to join may vary.
General requirements to become a USSF officer include U.S. citizenship, a passing health exam and a clean background investigation. Education requirements vary based on your program of interest. Upon meeting basic requirements, you may submit your application via your chain of command, local recruiter, ROTC detachment, the Air Force Academy or online.
The Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT) assesses you on verbal, math and other specific skill sets. This test can only be taken twice, so ensure you prepare properly.
Screening includes the summary of your medical examinations, AFOQT, education and other factors. If you’re actively enlisted in the Air Force or Space Force, you must attain an AF Form 422 (confirming your prior testing, that you’re medically fit) along with an eligibility statement. Once you have met all application requirements, your package is submitted to the officer selection board to determine selection or non-selection.
If selected, you will be assigned to the next class start date to begin your journey into the USSF as a commissioned officer. For more information, contact your local recruiter or apply online.
