DAF announces updates to DAFI 36-2606, gives Airmen, Guardians flexibility in career

ARLINGTON, Va. (AFNS) -- The Department of the Air Force announced updates to Department of the Air Force Instruction 36-2606, Reenlistment and Extension of Enlistment, May 23.

The update maximizes opportunities for Airmen and Guardians to reenlist by allowing them to do so up to 12-months before their expiration term of service, giving them more time to decide to reenlist.
The update also increases the obligated service cap for accepting bonuses from 72 months to 96 months and provides service members in any Air Force or Space Force specialty code more flexibility in their reenlistment contracts, opening the pool of those eligible to receive selective retention bonuses while maximizing the amount they receive.
For additional information, Airmen and Guardians can contact their local Military Personnel Flight, Career Development section or find more on DAFI 36-2606 here.
